The (Stichting) Operetta Research Center Amsterdam is an initiative and developed out of the work of musicologist dr. Kevin Clarke. The emphasis lies on the examination of the so called "Silver Operetta", works from 1905 to 1945. Special attention is paid to jazz-operettas of the 1920s, the influence of the American musical on Viennese and Berlin operetta, the changes that occurred after the Nazis took power in 1933 and the destiny of Jewish composers in exile. The research center tries to shed new light on these questions, together with researchers around the world. It also tries to make articles by researchers from around the world easily available through the internet.
