Concert Version of Victor Herbert's Mlle Modiste which opened in New York City in December 25, 1905 in the Knickerbocker Theatre.  New audience tested libretto which closely follows original with a narrator, reduced cast numbers, full chorus, and full orchestra. Utilize as much or as little production values as fit your budget.

Plot -  Fifi is Mme Cécile’s best shop girl and a valuable selling asset. Pure and simple, Fifi attracts men - men who buy hats for their wives and girlfriends so that they can spend more time with Fifi. Fifi loves Etienne de Bouvray, a nobleman, and therefore, beyond the reach of a mere shop girl. If she can't have the man she loves, she'll settle for a career in singing. Fortunately there's a rich American, Hiram Bent, who likes her spirit and anonymously provides the funds for that career. That's just the first Act - complications result in Act II and all's well that ends well.  All’s well that end’s well.

What does this score contain? “Mascot of the Troop,” “The Time, The Place and The Girl,” The Nightingale and the Star,”  and the comic songs “I Want What I Want When I Want It,” “Ze English Language,” and “Love Me, Love My Dog.”  That list includes a wonderful lineup of songs, but leaves out the most important offering of all – “If I Were On The Stage”  – a tour de force for any coloratura – has three identical verses and three entirely different choruses. There is no massive singing chorus to back up Fifi, just a great personality and wide range coloratura.
